Portugal is arguably one of the most culturally diverse countries in the world, home to approximately ten million people, Portugal has assimilated people of different origins such as Greeks, Romans, Northern Europeans and those from Mauritania. Portugal offers countless activities such as water sports, golf and perhaps most notably wine tasting. Portugal is not only famous for its port but is establishing a reputation for its light wines, made from various native grapes. Portugal is also home to beautiful beaches and stunning landscapes of which can be explored both independently and through tour companies.

The climate in Portugal is similar to other European countries in that it varies from region to region and is influenced by a number of factors, most notably the latitude and proximity to the sea. Broadly speaking the summers are hot and dry, particularly within inland areas of which are obviously affected less by the sea than coastal areas. Winters can be cool especially inland towards Spain but are still considered mild in comparison to many other European countries, such as Britain, for example!

The food and drink of Portugal, to a certain extent, is similar to many other European countries such as Greece and Turkey in terms of common ingredients such as soups, meats, fish and homemade breads and cheeses. Portugal's cuisine is perhaps most famed for its use of Peri Peri, a Brazilian spice that is commonly used to flavour Shrimp and Chicken.

There are extensive shopping opportunities in Portugal, both from more commercial and culturally diverse shopping centres situated inside and outside the larger cities which will typically offer popular international brands but also there are plentiful shops with a more traditional Portuguese feel selling Portuguese products, these are especially common within older neighbourhoods of towns and cities.
