WHAT TO DO
Puerto Rico is a Caribbean Island between the Caribbean Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean. It lies east of the Dominican Republic and is about 1,600km southeast of Miami, Florida. Puerto Rico is under the U.S. customs jurisdiction.
Spanish and English are the official languages, but Spanish is without a doubt the dominant language. English is spoken by about a quarter of the population at varying levels. English is spoken in all major tourist areas.
Puerto Rico enjoys year round summer temperatures, an average annual
temperature of 80°F (26°C). The peak tourist season is between
December and April. The best time to avoid the crowds is the low season between
May and November, but this is also hurricane season.
US citizens can travel freely in
and out of the island without going through immigration or customs. Citizens of other countries have the same requirements
as for entering the USA.
Don't miss:
El Yunque Peak in the Caribbean National Forest. These 28,000 acres are all that remain of the rain forest that once covered much of the island.
Caves; The Río Camuy runs underground for part of its course, forming the third largest subterranean river in the world.
